LEW Quiz #2

Answers

1. See – See means noticing something using our eyes

Watch – Watch is similar to look, but it usually means that we look at something for a period of time, especially something that is changing or moving

Look – When we look at something, we direct our eyes in its direction and pay attention to it

2. If you say 'when pigs fly' after someone has said that something might happen, you are emphasising that you think it is very unlikely.

3. A. Get in

4. Stratford-Upon-Avon

5. North East, East Midlands, Yorkshire and the Humber, South West, West Midlands, East of England, North West, London and South

East

6. It’s nice weather today, I hope the beach isn’t too crowded. The article ‘a’ is omitted with weather because it’s an uncountable noun, ‘the’ is used before beach because it specifically states the noun.

7. Miguel is the first and only student to have reached 200 lessons!

8. D. Mixed Conditional. Mixed conditionals are those unreal conditional sentences whose time in the if-clause is different than the time in the main-clause. They refer to the same time: the present, the future or the past. If we mix the sentences, we get mixed conditionals.

9. Suck up (to) - to try to make someone in authority approve of you by doing and saying things that will please them.

10. The correct sentence is: It’s embarrassing when you have to ask your parents for money. The reason for this is because the situation is embarrassing, and a person can feel embarrassed about a situation.

Next week's quiz will take place on Monday 13th April and a prize will be given to the winner. I hope everyone can take part next week.

Enjoy your weekend and stay at home.
